How To Choose A Safe And Efficient Credit Card Service
By Jim Saka

When you begin searching for a credit card service, there is much more to it than finding a reasonably priced service. While price is an important factor that should be considered, there are many other facets that separate a quality credit card service from a mediocre service. Features that should be considered include the customer service, their level of support, what they offer, and how safe the service truly is.

The first feature we will talk about is the customer service provided. Problems in credit card processing can and will occur. This becomes a strenuous time because it is not only affecting you, but also your entire downline. You want to make sure that the credit card service you select is there for you and is available to handle your needs.

Research is vital to determine how reliable the customer service is from your credit card service. Prior to joining, ask for customer referrals from current clients to get the truth. Don't be afraid to ask how quickly their calls are answered on average, and how long it takes to fix the problem. These are things that could affect you and your business in the future.

Along with customer service, make sure to research how well the customer support is. If you have a problem and your credit card service doesn't reply for a couple days, you will lose valuable business within that time. Check to see if the service offers staffed phones 24/7, and how reliable they are to meet your needs.

Another thing to consider is whether or not your credit card transaction service can offer secure ordering through SSL. SSL stands for secure sockets layer and is a widely-used web standard for security. If you already have a secure site then this is not a big deal for you. However, if you don't it is crucial that your service offers this because it is expensive and a pain in the butt to set it up yourself.

The last thing to consider when selecting an efficient credit card service is the legitimacy of the credit card service. Sadly, there are many con artists and scammers all over the internet trying to rip people off, which makes it all the more important that you know what you're getting into prior to agreeing to anything. The best ways to check the legitimacy is to contact the Better Business Bureau to check the company's status, and get a phone number and physical address if you find the service online.

Selecting a credit card service is crucial because this is what all your transactions for your business are going to go through. As long as you take your time and research in-depth before you commit to anything, you should have no problem selecting an efficient and trustworthy credit card transaction service.

What You Need To Know About 'Chip And Pin' Credit Card Machines
18th November 2006
Author: Chris Sinclair

Nearly every store is now upgrading to the 'chip and pin' system that credit card companies have recently introduced. This new system is a more effective way to keep your credit cards and the information stored on them safe and secure. These machines are much safer than signing your name on a receipt.

These new chip and pin machines are simple to use and help to prevent scammers from stealing your credit card information. When using one of these new credit card machines, simply swipe your card through the machine, Then, when instructed to do so on the screen display, enter your PIN number. Typically, these machines will have a small barrier that covers your hand as you type so that anyone trying to see you type your PIN will not be able to do so.

These machines help prevent credit card fraud in other ways, too. For example, in the past credit card fraud occured frequently in restaurants. When a customer would pay for their meal by credit card, the card would be out of their sight when the waiter took the card to the cashier. When processing these credit card payments some cashiers would add a small additional amount to the bill during the credit authorization process. Once the charge was authorized by the credit card company the cashier would pocket the difference between the amount of the meal and the authorized amount.

Now many restaurants have installed wireless credit card machines, so you don't have to let your credit card leave the table. The waiter will simply bring the machine over and you can swipe the card through and then enter your PIN, safe in the knowledge that no one else can see you enter your PIN.

These chip and pin credit card machines make life for the consumer much easier. They have also made the life of the scammer a lot more difficult. Chip and pin is the new way to protect your credit card details and if the service stays as effective as it is now, we will be seeing a lot more disgruntled scammers and a lot more happy consumers in the future.

Standard Credit Card Terminals

There are two types of credit card terminals commonly used by merchants in today's marketplace. Terminal with and without printers. Terminals without printers are the cheaper of the two terminals, and they allow the ability to add a printer in a seperate location from the processing machine, which is desirable in many environments. The all in one terminal with built in printer is the solution for many of today’s merchants. It offers a single compact unit that can be easily set up just about anywhere. There are two different printer options available with Terminals. The standard Impact Printer, with the ink ribbon system, and the newer more efficient thermal printer. The thermal printer uses no ink, and is usually easier to load paper due to drop in loading. It is slightly more expensive for a terminal with a thermal printer, but the cost is justifiable due to less upkeep and easier loading.

There are several brands of Terminals being used in the US today. Some of the more popular brands and models that they make are listed below.

1. Lipman / Nurit Credit Card Machines
2. Verifone Credit Card Machines
3. Hypercom Credit Card Machines

Mobile Credit Card Processing

Credit Card Processing Machines by Jack Chevalier

From : usamerchantsolutions.com.

Every credit card terminal has different functions and capabilities, but all of them take some investigation for your needs and price expectations. The following is a list of different options available when considering credit card machines:

IPP or Internal PIN Pad: This comes with several different models and although a nice option, you should consider the fact that this terminal is passed back and fourth between the cashier and customer. Smartcard: Another great option automatically available on some terminals, but will you utilize this option? Smartcard is used for gift and loyalty cards and unless your business is going to utilize this option, you might want to consider a less expensive terminal.

Touch Screen: This option is more for the ease of use for the cashier, but usually gives you signature capture. Signature Capture allows your customers to sign the terminal screen instead of the receipt.

Wireless Capabilities: This allows you to accept Credit Cards through a wireless or cellular connection. Most of the time this is great for merchants who are making sales away from the office, but this can be limited by the cellular service in that particular area.

RS-232 Ports: This gives you the opportunity to attach other devices to your terminal such as a check imager or check reader.

PIN Pad Port: Allows you to add an external PIN pad to your existing credit card machine.

Now there is no set rules for what type of equipment to buy or what type of equipment your processor can support, so it's up to you, the merchant, to investigate what your best options are. Just remember, if you have any questions about equipment call your processor.

Payment Processing
By Jimmy Sturo

Are you fond of using your credit card to make purchases in your favorite store? As far as you are concerned, the store cashier or your waiter just gets your credit card and swipes it on their little machine that produces a receipt for you to sign. At the end of the day, as long as there are no discrepancies with the statement of account produced by the credit card company and what you actually spent, you be at peace and you can rest easy.

There are actually a lot of steps that take place when you make a transaction in your credit card.

The sales person in the store first computes the total amount of your purchase. You then present your credit card to the cashier. Your credit card is run through the point of sales POS) system and the amount is punched in the cash register. An authorization request is sent to the bank if the transaction is valid. The sale is not actually recorded at that point but at a latter time.

Authority is transmitted if you have enough credit to continue with the purchase. The credit used is actually just set aside or reserved. An approval or denial code is then sent to the POS system of the retail store. The machine prints out a receipt for you to sign that would allow the store to reimburse the amount from the bank.

Before closing time or first thing the next morning, the store would review all the transactions registered in the POS system and the signed receipt. If all the authorizations match out, a request would be sent to bank for deposit. The bank of the store then sends a request to the credit card company for the amount of the transaction. The bank would transfer the money deducting what is called an inter charge free. The amount acquired from the credit card company is then deposited directly to the bank account of the store less a discount fee.
